Ontario Line Subway Construction Begins and Bayview Village Redevelopment Moves Forward

The Ontario government has officially commenced construction on three stations for the Ontario Line subway: King-Bathurst, Queen-Spadina, and Moss Park. These new stations will provide convenient access to over 70,000 residents within walking distance and help alleviate traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.

Ontario’s Minister of Transportation, commented on the milestone: “Under Premier Ford’s leadership, our government is one step closer to building a world-class transit system for the GTA. The stations breaking ground today will address traffic congestion, reduce commute times, and allow thousands of commuters to travel directly from their homes to work by subway.”

The Ontario Line is part of a broader subway expansion project and forms a key component of the provincial government’s $70 billion public transit investment plan over the next decade. Once completed, the 15.6-kilometer line will connect over 40 other transit stations, including subways, buses, streetcars, and regional trains, giving more than 220,000 people walkable access to public transit.

Bayview Village Mall Transformation Takes Major Step Forward

In other development news, Toronto’s Bayview Village shopping center has reached a significant milestone in its ongoing transformation. As of September 3rd, the north parking lot has been officially closed, marking the beginning of a large-scale redevelopment for the 440,000-square-foot mall.

This ambitious project represents the largest upgrade to Bayview Village since its opening in 1961, when it was part of the former city of North York. The redevelopment aims to shift the mall from a car-centric suburban shopping center to a vibrant, street-oriented mixed-use complex, where people can live, work, and of course, shop.

The closed parking area will be redeveloped into a mixed-use complex, which will include mid-rise residential buildings and an outdoor retail promenade featuring shops and restaurants. Future plans for the south parking lot include more development, such as high-rise residential towers and new retail spaces along Sheppard Avenue East, which will connect directly to the TTC Bayview station on Line 4.

Once the project is fully completed, Bayview Village will feature three mid-rise buildings, each six stories tall, along with three high-rise towers of 30, 29, and 20 stories, transforming the area into a bustling, integrated community.
